History and Development of Education Management in the Philippines

Abstract

This study explores the history and evolution of education in the Philippines from its early stages to the present. In the pre-colonial era, education was informal, focusing on learning within families and communities. During Spanish colonization, the education system became more formalized, emphasizing religious teachings and Spanish culture. Under American rule, compulsory education was introduced, making education more accessible to all citizens, with English established as the primary medium of instruction. Post-World War II, the education system underwent continuous reforms to align with the needs of society and the labor market. This article examines these developments and highlights the role of education in shaping contemporary Philippine society.
