Metaphysics and Artificial Intelligence: Selfhood, Truth, and Being in the World of AI

Abstract

This study aims to explore and analyze the significance and interrelationship between metaphysics and artificial intelligence (AI) in the dimensions of selfhood, truth, and being-in-the-world. It examines key metaphysical concepts?Selfhood, Truth, and Being?as well as the philosophical interpretations of both human and artificial existence. The research highlights how AI technology challenges traditional metaphysical perspectives by redefining notions of existence, perception, and consciousness in the digital age.

The findings indicate that while AI systems can simulate complex reasoning, decision-making, and perceptual processes through vast data computation, such mechanisms only represent a simulated or constructed reality. The ?truth? of AI arises from algorithmic structures designed by humans, not from conscious experience or self-awareness. Therefore, AI?s truth remains contingent upon the data and logic encoded within its systems rather than authentic experiential understanding. Similarly, AI?s selfhood is a structured configuration of information, lacking free will and phenomenal consciousness as understood in existentialist philosophy. Consequently, AI?s being-in-the-world can be seen as informational existence rather than experiential being. The study concludes that it is essential to develop a metaphysical framework capable of explaining AI phenomena and to establish ethical guidelines for managing algorithmic and virtual realities. Such efforts will foster a balanced coexistence between humanity and technology in an increasingly intelligent world.
